Warmer days are upon us once again. Spring and summer days are all about picnics, trips to the park, and spending more time outdoors. But along with summertime frolic comes the threat of bees and wasps.

Bees and wasps are more active from April to June, and these stingers are not exactly the most pleasant springtime companions. They pose health risks, destroy your homes, and even take over your picnic food. Getting rid of bees and wasps may not exactly be the easiest thing to do, as they typically belong to colonies with thousands of others of their type.

So how can we deal with these unwanted insects? Read on to find out.

Why do we need to get rid of bees and wasps?

There are several reasons why bees and wasps removal is essential. The foremost reason would be the dangers that these insects pose to our health. Both bees and wasps can sting us, while it is a one-time sting for bees (bees die after stinging), wasps can sting you more than once. Also, some people are allergic to stings, making it more dangerous for them if they are stung by either bees or wasps.

Another reason for bees and wasp removal is the destruction that these insects can cause. Carpenter bees can hollow out wood ad weaken the structure of your home. In addition to that, wasps also love to turn your attics, decks, and even windows into their territory.

There are different ways that you can try to remove these unwanted pests depending on the severity of the infestation.

1. Seek the help of a beekeeper

If there is a beekeeper in your area, the person can help you deal with bees by removing the hives in your home. The beekeeper will be more than willing to take care of the bees himself.

2. Use something sweet

Bees love anything sweet. You can get rid of them by cutting a soda bottle in half and filling it with any sweet soda. The bees will most likely swarm the bottle to drink the soda and would eventually drown.

Similarly, wasps are also attracted to sweets. For wasps, you can try using sugar mixed with water and placing it in an open jar or bottle. The wasps will crawl towards the sugar water where they will eventually be trapped.

3. Make use of cinnamon

Here’s a way to get rid of bees without having to harm them. Using cinnamon powder, sprinkle some on their hives every day for about a week. The strong scent of cinnamon would be enough for the bees to abandon their hives and look for another place to build a colony.

4. Create a spray solution

Another way to get rid of bees is by spraying some vinegar on their nests and the plants that bees tend to gravitate to. Just mix equal parts of water and vinegar in a spray bottle and make sure to spray at night when the bees are asleep. The solution will kill the bees so be prepared to do some clean up afterward.

If you’re dealing with wasps, you can try spraying them with soap and water. The soap will suffocate the wasps and will most likely die instantly.

5. Put some bee repelling plants around your home

Citronella, eucalyptus, and mint are great in helping you get rid of bees and wasps. Place them in different parts of your house to stop the bees from going anywhere near your property. Not only are these plants useful, but they also smell good and are easy to maintain, too.

If you’re not much of a green thumb, you can make diffuse the plants’ essential oils to give off the scent that would surely turn off the insects.

6. Call the professionals

In some cases, the severity of the infestation is just too much for you to handle. If that is the case, then it’s time to call in the professionals and let them deal with the bees and wasps removal in your home. Professional exterminators can also help you prevent further infestations from taking place.

Removing bees and wasps in your home is essential to your family’s health so you can make sure that everyone can truly have a great summer.
